Yes indeed - these are all great things to see and do. I would add a few more places and experiences to the list. Some of these are pretty usual tourist territories while others will take you a little off the beaten path to see more of the real China.

Chengdu -The panda breeding centre here is on most traveller's China itineraries.

Lijiang - A popular place in the Yunnan province with picturesque canals, bridges, red lanterns and small wooden houses. Lijiang is situated in the foothills of the Himalayas and is the perfect starting point for a Tiger Leaping Gorge trek.

Ping'an - The mountain village of Ping'an can only be reached on foot, so it's a great place to get an hnest glimpse of rural China. Trek through the terraces with a guide, crossing through several mountain passes filled with paddy-fields and water wheels.

Stone Forest National Park - Approximately 2 hours from Kunming lies China's stone forest (Shilin)made up of limestone rock formations. Some of the rock formations resemble petrified trees. There are rock peaks that reach up 30m into the sky.

This looks like a lovely hotel. I definitely think that these traditional style hotels surrounding a small courtyard filled with plants, lanterns and birdcages, are great places to stay, especially in big cities. This type of accommodation in offered most commonly in Lijiang, Dali and Beijing among other places.

Tian'anmen Square is probably THE most famous spot in Beijing as well as the Forbidden City, and the square is bordered by the Chinese Houses of Parliament as well as the mausoleum of Mao Zhedong. If you need a break from the pace of the city, you can relax by the Temple of Heavenly Peace, set within a park filled with pine trees and picnic spots. If you take the three hour journey north to Jinshanling, you can walk the Great Wall to Simitai.
